The Van Buren Lady Pointers seemed to be in position to win their home finale on Monday.

However, Fayetteville spoiled the fun by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to stun the Lady Pointers, 5-3, in 6A-West action.

Van Buren (8-14, 5-8) now stands a half-game back of Rogers Heritage for fourth place in the conference. The Lady Pointers can still tie for fourth with a win Tuesday at Springdale Har-Ber, and if the Lady Pointers can win by at least four runs, they will get the No. 4 seed from the West at this week’s 6A State Tournament since Van Buren and Heritage split their two games.

The Lady Pointers tied the score on Monday in the bottom of the fourth, when Richelle Stacy’s RBI single made it 1-all.

After Fayetteville took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth, Van Buren answered back. Cali Jones singled to lead off the inning; then with one out, Alexcia Trejo hit a two-RBI home run to give the Lady Pointers a 3-2 advantage.

But Fayetteville had the final say with its three-run top of the seventh.

Trejo was 2-for-4 with her home run. Janelle Parga also went 2-for-3 with a double for Van Buren.
