Fayetteville 3, Springdale High 1

Joey Savin had a big hand in getting the Bulldogs in the win column for the first time this season in 7A-West Conference action.

Savin pitched six solid innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts, then came through with the go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the fourth as Fayetteville edged Springdale High at Bulldog Field on Monday.

After losing both games against Fort Smith Southside the week before Spring Break, Fayetteville (8-6, 1-2 7A-West) has now reeled off six straight wins, which includes a 5-0 stretch at the Spring Swing in Emerson, Ga.

Andrew Roach nearly matched Savin on the mound for the Red'Dogs, allowing just three hits in six innings. All three runs given up by Roach in the fourth inning were unearned.

Logan Carr led Springdale (10-5, 1-2) at the plate, going 2 for 4.

The two teams play again today at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyson Sports Complex
