Bentonville West continues to pile up milestone wins in its first season on the boys' basketball court.

The Wolverines got perhaps the most significant victory yet on Tuesday.

Bentonville West visited Fayetteville for its first-ever 7A-West Conference road game Tuesday. And with the Purple'Dogs playing their first conference game of the season after a postponement the previous week against Bentonville, the Wolverines took advantage of a sluggish Fayetteville then fought off a determined Purple'Dogs team late in a 59-48 win at Bulldog Arena.

"I have so much respect for Kyle (Adams) and Brad (Stamps) and those guys, and Fayetteville is the program of our conference. They're the flagship," Bentonville West boys basketball coach Greg White said. "We're not even supposed to be here and folks tried to talk me out of this job and said you can't win there.

"But we had a great week of practice and I'm so proud of my guys. We just out-toughed them, we were more physical than they were and that's a statement. I know how much it means to these guys here at Fayetteville, but it's going to mean something to be a Westside Wolverine, too."

Bentonville West (9-6, 2-0 7A-West) hit 7 of 16 from 3-point range in the first half to help build a 31-19 lead. Fayetteville, meanwhile, couldn't find any offensive touch at the start, making just 1 of 8 on 3-pointers before intermission while struggling to find any go-to scorer.

In the second half, Tyler Roth, who finished with a game-high 22 points, led a steady comeback for Fayetteville. But just as the Purple'Dogs (5-8, 0-1) crept back to within 41-39 with 5 minutes to play, the Wolverines made all the key stops and plays to pull away down the stretch.

"The thing that pleases me was how well we competed in the second half," Fayetteville coach Kyle Adams. "I didn't think we did that in the first half for whatever reason.

"We've got to find some answers, I know that. And we've just got to find some ways to put the ball in the basket."

Gabe Hornsby led West with 14 points and Cobe Muldrew added 12.
