Fayetteville needed only one opportunity to down Rogers High on Tuesday night.

In a boys soccer match where the Purple'Dogs could only muster four shots on goal, they needed only one of those opportunities to earn a 1-0 win in 7A-West Conference action at Harmon Stadium.

Alejandro Venegas scored the contest's only goal in the 58th minute on a cross from deep inside the goal box.

Fayetteville coach Joe Thoma credited the score to some halftime adjustments.

"We told them at halftime that when we pressure their backs somebody is going to make a mistake," Thoma said. "Then we'll get it and slide it to the forward. Alejandro went in one-on-one."

Rogers coach Stephen Peck said his team failed to finish its opportunities. The Mounties out-shot Fayetteville 12-4, controlling possession for much of the match, but couldn't put a shot past Fayetteville keeper Mason Smith, who finished with seven saves.
