Over the past decade the Fayetteville-Rogers game has not created much attention for 7-A West fans. The 2016 version of the Fayetteville-Rogers game should and will create quite a bit of hype with both teams coming in with identical 4-1 records on the 2016 season. Rogers is fresh off a victory over cross-town rival Heritage and are looking to spring an upset on the Purple Dogs. Fayetteville comes off a home victory against Bentonville West and is looking to find that playoff form that has proven so dangerous over the past few years.

The Mounties’ offense has started quickly in every victory and will be looking to do the same against Fayetteville. Rogers quarterback Max Horton has been accurate with the football and is not afraid to use his legs to gain some yards. Horton has a solid assortment of wide receivers that have proven to be dangerous in the Mounties victories this season. Hunter Hawkins has proven to be a difficult wide receiver to cover for opposing cornerbacks and this contest could turn into a close game if the Mounties can jump out quickly on offense.

The Purple Dogs of Fayetteville were able to rebound against Bentonville West, after suffering the first defeat of the season against Bentonville. Fayetteville Coach Bill Blankenship has been impressed with his defense and is very impressed with the play of the secondary. The secondary is a group that will likely get tested against the Mounties. As for Fayetteville’s offense, Purple Dogs fans should expect quarterback Taylor Powell to get the ball to his receivers early. Fayetteville fans should also look for Terrance Rock to see his share of the carries. The ground game could play a big factor for the Purple Dogs in this contest.

The 2016 matchup between the Purple Dogs and the Mounties has all the indicators of being a very close football game. Rogers coach Mike Loyd and Fayetteville coach Bill Blankenship have known each other for 40 years and are familiar with what each coach tries to execute in his game plans. Over the past decade, Fayetteville has dominated this matchup and that is something that will be tested Friday night.
