The Purple’Dogs (13-12, 8-2) regained the top spot in the 7A-West behind an opportunistic offense and solid pitching by Hayes Cox.

Barrett Banister doubled, moved to third on an error and scored what proved to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Emory Kincaid in the fifth inning. Kincaid tripled and scored Fayetteville’s first run on a wild pitch in the third.

Cox (4-2) allowed one run on six hits while striking out five and walking three in 62/3 innings for the Purple’Dogs.

Caleb Grace, whose sixth-inning homer accounted for Har-Ber’s lone run, scattered three hits and struck out four in six innings for the Wildcats (16-8, 7-3).

Van Buren 4, Springdale High 0

The Pointers’ Ethan Holmes threw a complete game one-hitter Wednesday to lead Van Buren to a weekly split of the Red’Dogs. Holmes struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Leadoff hitter Andrew Roach had the lone base hit for Springdale, who drops to 12-11 overall and 4-6 in the 7A-West.

Van Buren’s Evan Jones did the bulk of the offensive work in the win, driving in three runs as part of a 2-for-3 day. Nursing a 2-0 lead in the sixth, Jones’ two-run home run provided insurance for Van Buren.
